Glucose supplementation prevents fatal fungal infections

The study, published in Cell Metabolism, shows that the fungal pathogen, Candida albicans, consumes glucose during systemic infections. This causes hypoglycaemia thereby depleting the essential nutrient to maintain macrophage function. Glucose supplementation prevents immune cell death and the high fatality rate associated with fungal infections.
